The basics.
Amarr, space-Catholics. They used to have the Minmatar as slaves, ruled by an Empress who is controlled by an AI, and are allied with the Caldari. Preferring aesthetics over function, they make everything LOOK good before it WORKS well, leading to heavy, but well armored designs. They prefer cleansing Laser fire over other conventional firearms. IO can't say much more about them, they change policies at an alarming rate.
Caldari, space-corporate. They used to have the Gallente as part of their nation. Ruled by a board of CEOs from the biggest companies, currently headed by Tibus Heth, who is not a very nice guy. He dropped a supercapital ship on the only other guy capable of leading the Caldari. Preferring function over all else, their designs tend to be optimized for immense shielding power, but don't function well as physical armor. They fire Missiles and Railguns over long distances to minimize financial losses, blasting a capsule over long distances until it makes contact and explodes.
Gallente, space-French. They left the Caldari for more personal freedoms. Ruled democratically, they formed an alliance with the Minmatar and shared some of their outdated tech with them in hopes of having an ally against the Caldari/Amarr alliance. Taking a similar design philosophy as their mother nation, they put their all into making powerful armor without the Amarr's lack of speed. They use Blaster weapons, a hybrid turret which explodes in the turret and fires the resultant energy in a bolt, as well as Combat Drones, small unmanned fighters designed to harry targets too slow to track them.
Minmatar, space-Tribes. They freed themselves from the Amarr because they didn't much care for being slaves. Living conditions in the Minmatar Republic aren't that much better than the slave quarters though. Using the magic of rust and duct tape, the Minmatar fly old hulks repurposed into sleek machines. Without the technological superiority of the Gallente's Armor, Caldari's Shield, or Amarr's Lasers, they rely more on speed and versatility and more 'conventional' weapons. Minmatar ships are eclectic, the Rifter relying on it's speed, the maelstrom on it's shield, the Tornado on it's sheer firepower. They use Artillery and Autocannons, firing immensely scaled up shells through the vacuum of space to deadly effect.
DUST is the result of the Amarr getting a Sleeper and reverse engineering their version of the conscience moving implants, allowing an infantry compacted version of the EVE pilot Pod system. The other nations quickly got their hands on it, with the Caldari only having the Ishukone corporation, the same one who's CEO got a ship dropped on him earlier. Ramifications of this are yet to be stated.

The whole you must be a democratic nation overly conflicted with how caldari did most things in a highly bureaucratic manner. One terrorist attack there and one bad election there and whallah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXWf-l71MY4
The Gallente are always one step away from a witch hunt anyway, can't really blame the Caldari for wanting to leave. Love how the factions are 'real' and not one of the four is 'good' just less horrid. Minmatar living conditions are horrible, Amarr are racist zealots, Caldari are less than nothing if they lose their job, and Gallente society is ridiculously paranoid. |

Miners have more purpose than half of the Dust players. They're doing it for money. You guys? I dunno what you're doing anything for, honestly - and it shows that you don't either considering you have to ask for purpose. I get no greater joy than dropping a Tactical Hybrid Strike for myself in PC. Got my television set up right next to my computer monitor. Hell, I even landed a kill in Eve Online while playing Dust 514: http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=20644140#mailAnd you know what's the saddest thing about this thread? The fact that the majority of you are seasoned Shooter veterans, either from Call of Duty, Battlefield, Unreal or what have you. Did you need any purpose in those games other than to kill? To win the match? What did you die in those games for, eh? Some silly flag that was still going to be there the next game? In that exact same place, just waiting to change colors? Some bomb that was still going to be there waiting to be armed/defused? Some silly killboard? You want purpose, open up the Starmap and take a look at the Factional Warfare colors. Or the Planetary Conquest colors. Die for one of those. You didn't need any other reason for any other game, so quit your whining, suit up and go kill something. When someone tells you to make your own purpose, they're not joking, they're not lying and saying they are just shows how ignorant you really are. So the problem is that there isn't enough variety of things to do. We have FW which lets you fight for the side of your Choice, Then PC lets Corps Fight for territory. So the problem with FW is that there's no real gain for fighting for a faction accept for the satisfaction of defeating for enemies. The problem with PC is that one not everyone can compete with these top tier corps, Two is that there's no real gain unless your apart of Eon which holds most of the district of Molden Heath. Yes we Should look to find something to fight for but two real options give the newberries no real incentive to do so. For example if we had PvE from what i've come to find out what it would be is that these drones would infest said district and we as mercs would get payed to go in and clean it out. So say a corp is in a war and one of their districts got infested and don't have the resources to deal with it I would get a squad to do the job. Anther example if there was a DUST PLAYER MARKET where we as dust players can trade and sell items(this wouldn't be connected with EvE yet). I would be a broker for people so they can go fight in there battles and don't have a worries of running out of items they want for a price. In EvE they have a lot of options to do and gain for what ever they do. As for me i understand that that this game has a long way to go but i think there should of been some implemented long time ago like all racial suits. As for what where dieing for yes i agree that you should make your own path but as of right now there isn't a lot of paths to chose from. Also i do support this game 100% and i do understand things take time to become great. ANONYMOUS is doing just fine despite this current fad that you can't do anything without EON and we're not even a part of an alliance. So, don't say it can't be done. Yup PIE fights you guys whenever we get the chance on any battlefield you turn up on if we can, and we're an 8 man corp, with only 3 regular players. Still I find fighting for the Amarr a worthwhile cause to dedicate my time to, however I only wish we had AMARR HAV so that I didn't have to rely in Gallentean crap.
I'm dying to see the Amarr and Minmatar HAVs. Gallente and Caldari have somewhat similar design aesthetics, but the Amarr and Minmatar are completely different.
I imagine the Amarr HAV as a Trilobite or Horseshoe Crab, with better turning ability, more armor, but a shield that a Drosuit would be ashamed of. I'd love to see them prowling the battlefield... especially with the wealth of machinima that a new platform for an AMARR RAVE PARTY would generate.
As for Minmatar... it's kinda useless to speculate. Beyond saying it should have solar panels, Minmatar designs are kinda eclectic and many times asymmetrical. |
